The Blue Aeroplanes - Swagger

Bitrate: 320K/s
Year: 1990
Time: 53:26
Size: 122,7 MB
Label: Chrysalis Records
Styles: Rock/Alt.Rock/Post Punk/
Art: Front

Tracks Listing:
 1. Jacket Hangs - 3:41
 2. World View Blue - 3:21
 3. Weightless - 5:00
 4. ...And Stones - 5:28
 5. Love Come Around - 3:48
 6. Your Ages - 4:28
 7. The Applicant - 4:02
 8. What It Is - 6:18
 9. Anti-Pretty - 4:31
10. Careful Boy - 4:22
11. Picture Framed - 1:56
12. Cat-Scan Hist'ry - 6:26

It may seem like a slightly boastful title, but Swagger is anything but an attitude-laden in-your-face rip, and all the better for it as well. By the time the Aeroplanes decided to take a chance on major-label existence, their combination of poetic ramalama and neo-guitar jangle and shake had been well established, so Swagger was, if anything, merely a polishing of the group's form rather than any radical leap. Gil Norton's production definitely has a pitch towards sounding good on the radio, but Langley's poems are still generally dead set against easy singalong, no matter how much the music lends itself to just that. His delivery is nonetheless quite attractive, and on songs like the lead single "World View Blue," his ruminative approach slips alongside the low-key grooves and guitar strums just so. When they want to, the Aeroplanes can turn up the heat, avoiding full-on sludge for a combination of electric force and quick, liquid playing. The complex melody line on "And Stones" and the exultant rush of "Love Come Round" are two instances of many. Bruschini, Allen, and Lee come up with any number of lovely melodies and performances throughout the record; to cite one instance of many, the descending chords on "Weightless" add a perfect drama to Langley's depiction of future shock. Allen himself takes the singing lead on "Careful Boy," a nice mandolin-touched piece. The core rhythm section of McCreeth and John Langley goes about its business well, adding in brief touches of flair or flash when needed. Echoes of the group's inspirations perhaps inevitably crop up -- a musical quote of "Sweet Jane" here, hints of the Byrds there -- but the one open source of inspiration used is a smart one. "The Applicant" sets one of Sylvia Plath's poems to music, Langley delivering the sharp lyrics with bite while the music keeps up the album's electric rush with style.

While the CBKs have their feet firmly planted in these timeless musical traditions, they bring a spirited energy and updated approach to the music. While the subject matter of many of the songs is familiar (love, money and good times) they also touch on a number of current issues. Download Blues portrays the challenges of selling records and staying financially afloat in the era of digital piracy and streaming services. Gotta Move out to the Suburbs describes the real struggle faced by many who are forced out of their neighborhoods due to the gentrification taking place in inner-city areas of Chicago and other urban centers in the U.S.
As the band s fan base and acclaim continue to grow, the Cash Box Kings are more dedicated and energetic than ever in their quest to keep these uniquely American musical traditions alive and relevant in the 21st Century.

The Tim Cummiskey Trio - Redeeming Time

Bitrate: 320K/s
Year: 2003
Time: 60:14
Size: 139,6 MB
Label: CoJazz
Styles: Jazz/Hammond B3
Art: Front

Tracks Listing:
 1. Unit 7 - 7:12
 2. Darn That Dream - 7:22
 3. Black Nile - 5:03
 4. Hank's Riff - 6:09
 5. How Insensitive - 4:53
 6. Inner Urge - 5:52
 7. Invitation - 6:18
 8. Time Remembered - 5:05
 9. This I Dig Of You - 5:34
10. Fever Dream - 6:42

Just in case Tim Cummiskey is mistakenly described as an "up and coming" jazz guitarist, let the level of playing revealed on this CD serve as living testimony that this artist has already "arrived" The Tim Cummiskey Trio assembled for this project puts Tim in fine company, with Columbus legend Hank Marr on organ and drummer Jim Rupp, an alumnus of the Woody Herman, Maynard Ferguson, and Glenn Miller Orchesstras. While Tim Cummiskey has appeared on numerous recordings as a sideman, Redeeming The Time is his second recording as the leader.
The guitar's place in the history of jazz has been both interesting and peculiar. Unlike woodwind and brass instruments that played a prominent role in the development of jazz styles in every major era, the guitar did not become a major jazz voice in the field until the jazz-rock or fusion manifestations of the late 1960s and 1970s. And although the guitar found relatively quick acceptance as a rhythm instrument, it was slower to develop as a solo vehicle. Thanks to Django Reinhardt and Charlie Christian in the modern era and on through the pantheon of great guitarists in the postbop period from Wes Montgomery to your favorite at this time, the guitar has given notice and history informs us that the instrument is a voice in the genre of jazz that takes a back seat to no other instrument. Indeed the guitar's role-playing as both a comping and a solo instrument provides a unique opportunity for boundless creative expression.
Upon listening to Tim Cummiskey's Redeeming The Time, one hears the work of a fertile mind that offers boundless creative expression. And I don't just mean heady, cerebral playing, but playing that comes from the heart, as well, with lots of musical sensitivity and imagination. Cummiskey's choice of tunes for this CD reveals his respect and love for the compositions of music masters like Wayne Shorter, Joe Henderson, Bill Evans, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Sam Jones, Hank Mobley, and Lee Morgan, along with Jimmy Van Huesen and Bronslau Kaper. Additionally he includes one of his own compositions and another cowritten with Hank Marr. Tim Cummiskey proves my adage that jazz music is really about rhythm.
If you enjoy swing, you will marvel at the groove set down in Unit 7 or Invitation, two of my favorites. Cummiskey wastes no time in showing you that he has chops galore. While modern stylists since Charlie Parker typically have utilized the double-time figure in their improvisations, Cummiskey's use of double-time figures occurs at any point of the bar. At times they go over the bar, and often are grouped in four, but often appear in triplet, too. The beauty of Cummiskey's rhythms is that they come at you at a virtuosic machine-gun pace that makes you say wow! Sometimes the juxtapositioning of his rapid-fire rhythms create surprise and tension, but they get properly resolved, and besides, he can do all of this and still swing. Listen to the vamp ending of Black Nile, and see for yourself.
If you like the blues, then check out Hank's Riff. Here Cummiskey understands the blues as primary language and reveals his affection for earthy, soulful playing. Of course, with Hank Marr on organ, there is plenty of groove and grease in this kitchen. When Leroi Jones (Amira Baraka) published his seminal work, Blues People, in 1963, he surely must have had Hank Marr in mind, and both Cummiskey and Rupp add their special ingredients to the mix.
Other important aspects of this recording are the rich harmonic vocabulary and beautiful melodic renditions evidenced by Cummiskey in the more relaxed tunes of this session. All guitarists and pianists love Jobim for his beautiful and exquisite harmonies and melodies. Cummiskey's choice of How Insensitive discloses some of his most sensitive playing. The gentle side of Cummiskey comes through in Jobim's pretty, Latin-flavored tune that provides a wonderful template for yet another beautiful and creative ride from Cummiskey.
The ballad Darn That Dream, Bill Evan's Time Remembered, along with Cummiskey's own Fever Dream provide us with more tenderness and introspection. Improvisation is the hallmark and defining essence of creativity in the jazz tradition. Whether listening to Inner Urge or This I Dig Of You, or any of the ten tunes featured on Redeeming The Time, one will be impressed with the improvising prowess of Tim Cummiskey. Sit back, relax and enjoy, and redeem your time listening to the artistry of Tim Cummiskey, jazz guitarist.

Loose Moorings are a pack of crafty locals making a splash in the UK with their fearless blues rock ruckus. Things really took off when BBC radio picked up their soulful track Face The Fall last year. In this debut album you are treated to a smorgasbord of expert guitar noodlings tied to an eager bluesy heart. Rather than exhibiting a slavish devotion to the genre it’s apparent that Loose Moorings are having fun with what they have, for instance in Dunluce, where Roy Hudson’s acoustic guitar masterfully weaves around Will Pike’s writhing electric leads. The interplay between these distinct styles and influences is effortless. There is still plenty of room to blow the roof off, as album closer Trashed proves in spades. The album was recorded in No Machine Studios in Berkshire, England, by Pike and Neil Sadler, who also contributes additional guitar. These two have carefully nurtured each song, allowing them room to breathe so their strengths can shine. It makes for a refreshing and beautifully uncomplicated listening experience worth savouring.

Todd Wolfe Band, one of the hardest working blues-rock ensembles in the business, are joined by acclaimed organist John Ginty for the new album “Long Road Back”
Wolfe and Ginty had already collaborated on the band’s last highly-praised studio album, “Miles To Go” . Ginty has toured and recorded with artists such as Jewel, Citizen Cope, Santana, Dixie Chicks, Matthew Sweet, and the Court Yard Hounds. The New Jersey native is an original member of Robert Randolph and the Family Band, for which he received two Grammy Nominations.
Longtime guitar ace Todd Wolfe is known for his work with the great Sheryl Crow (five years as her lead guitarist in the ’90’s), Carla Olson (the Textones); and Leslie West (Mountain), among others, throughout a stellar career. Wolfe has released eight albums since 1999 and has written songs for acts as diverse as country star Faith Hill and Stevie Nicks.
Todd Wolfe plays aggressive and daring blues-tinged, jam rock reminiscent of the bands of the sixties and seventies influenced by Eric Clapton.
“Long Road Back” the new studio album reflects this with two cover versions taken. First the classic blues rock song from Eric Clapton the Cream number “ Outside Woman Blues ” and second the Stephen Stills classic “ Black Queen”.
The Todd Wolfe Band recalls the days when “men were men and amps were amps”, real tubes crackling with a “bluesdelic” sound reminiscent of the best rock and roll bands of the 60’s and 70’s! This band with Roger Voss on drums and the stunning Justine Gardner on bass jams and rocks, but their music is deeply soaked in blues with dynamic drive from the new band member on keyboard John Ginty.

We'll go ahead and save the very best for last in this edition. Black Orange utterly blew my mind on first listen, and every time I push play. Since its discovery the last week of March I have played this album more than any single album so far this year. It was released in 2013 but seems to have gotten a boost this spring by fellow campers who all seem to agree. Here are the stupid words I said when at the time the only supporters were Paul Rote and Mushroom Mike. Two prolific fans that we all seem to agree on music with. " Not only did Mike and Paul Rote both buy this, Paul had me with his description where he mentions Country, fish and stoner in the same sentence. This is awesome! Orange is the new Black is a cool show, but Black Orange is even cooler. Don't forget that antic." Doesn't make a lot of sense, but at the time it felt right. I was just overly excited. This is another one at that special price that you absolutely cannot afford not to download and play to death. So now that the flowers have bloomed and the weather has frozen over and killed the budding plants and shattered the early overachiever yardwork addict's irrigation pipes, the music plays on unharmed. No matter the season the spring time is now, and daylight savings means more listening time before the sun sets. See you next time. And don't be afraid to chime in and tell us your best discoveries in the comment section below.

Blue By Nature - Live At The Lake

10. Steal Away -  7:03
11. You Got A Way -  6:13
12. Whatcha Want -  8:24
13. Right The Wrong -  9:43

Blue By Nature is yet another fine blues band based in California. Live at the Lake is a two disc set, featuring the band in a live setting. The performance ranges in mood from from energetic and upbeat blues-rock and funk to slower blues and R&B flavored ballads, as the band works through a set consisting entirely of original songs. The five member band is fronted by singer/songwriter Karen Lawrence, who's excellent vocals are distinctive, hard-hitting and emotional. There's a definite sense that she connects with her audience.
Although fronted by Lawrence, the band has a very stong guitar presence as well. There's a generous amount of excellent guitar playing laid down throughout the two discs. While I would not classify Blue By Nature as a strictly guitar oriented band, there's more than enough high quality guitar to safely recommend the group to blues fans who favor that instrument.
Some of my favorite songs from the disc are the blues-rock numbers "I'll Get Along Alright", which which features some of the most spirited guitar work, and "Another Day, Another Mile". Of the slower songs, "Fun and Games", a powerful blues ballad, and the medium paced shuffle "Steal Away" are excellent. "Whatcha Want" has a prominant Cream feel to it.
Blue By Nature is definitely a band I would make an effort to see if they came to my area. Karen Lawernce's strong vocals and commanding stage presence, combined with the strong guitar and unusually broad selection of interesting orginal material on Live at the Lake have me convinced Blue By Nature is a band to watch for.

Southern Rock / Country music with driving rhythms, scorching hot guitar licks, strong lyrics and vocal harmonies. Drop this in and hit the highway or your favorite gravel road. Just watch your speed.   Yes, it's a goofy name. To be honest with you, it was alcohol induced. We don't really own a large chicken. It's not some sort of tropical fish - it's not even about an animal. Oh, and we have heard ALL the jokes. Even 'that' one...
The truth is that the name 50 Pound Rooster is very unforgettable. A lot like the music you will experience from this band. Our unique sound combines driving country and southern-rock to create an experience like you've never seen (or heard). Kinda like a 50 Pound Rooster!

Modern rock with dark melodic undertones. Sound Of Scarlet is an American rock band based out of Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. Our goal is to write songs that make a long-lasting emotional impression on you the listener. Guitar is the foundation and starting point of our songwriting. The sonic range of the guitar has the ability to push & pull our emotions so strongly, that it has always seemed primary. This is certainly not true for all music, but for SOS the melody and lyrics are drawn out of the context of the music and are directed to compliment the feel of the song. Our first album Through The Veil was written with this objective in mind.

11. Get In Line - 4:19
12. One More - 3:06
13. Wamala - 1:40
14. Backbone - 3:24

After five years of writing and some one-off performances, Jeff Austin (Yonder Mountain String Band) and Brendan Bayliss (Umphrey's McGee) have finally released an album under their group moniker 30DB titled One Man Show.  And the wait was worth it.  With an excellent supporting cast in tow, these two jam veterans have created a unique project with a sound that falls somewhere between their respective groups....just as you hoped it would.
Their collaboration came about in 2005 as each was under duress from mutual relationship breakups.  What could have been an album consisting of dreary and depressing songs, is actually a wonderfully crafted collection of uplifting pop melodies, breezy ballads, and some gritty rock n' roll.  Make no mistake, this is not a fluff project and proves that out of the darkness can come light.
Though this group is spearheaded by Austin and Bayliss, it would not have come off as well as it did without the help of the high-profile contributors that anchor this brilliant work.  They are joined by Cody Dickinson from the North Mississippi All-Stars on drums, Nick Forster from Hot Rize on guitars, and Eric Thorin of Open Road on bass; all of whom bring exceptional skills and flavor to each tune on the album.
The group touches on a variety of styles, playing along the lines of Simon & Garfunkel ("Always Up"), Zeppelin-ish ballads ("Backfire"), and driving, raucous jams ("Grave") akin to the Allman Brothers Band.
Other highlights include the countrified blues tune "Susanah", which showcases Austin's fantastic mandolin flair, the very Umphreys-like "Get in Line", and the catchy rock shuffle "Liar".
Austin and Bayliss work in perfect company on this release.  Their vocal harmonies blend together marvelously, and the interplay of guitar and mandolin shine along with their well-accompanied rhythm section.
One might be quick to dub this collective a "supergroup" due to the quartet's individual accomplishments, and that might be fitting.  However, the band should not be written off as such seeing how One Man Show is a very original assemblage of songs; all of which are solidly produced.  They may all be better known for excelling musically in the live setting, but have definitely constructed one fine album.

Darlahood - Big Fine Thing

Bitrate: 320K/s
Year: 1996
Time: 56:02

 9. New  York City - 3:35
10. I've Got Pictures - 4:44
11. RSVP - 7:51
12. Hey Baby (Take Me With You) - 4:41

Released in July of 1996, Big Fine Thing is an exceptionally mature work considering that New York's Darlahood recorded the major-label debut not too long after playing their first shows in 1995. The accomplished recording suggests that singer/guitarist/songwriter Luke Janklow had been honing his six-string chops and songwriting skills for years, perhaps decades before this official coming out. Filled with hook-laden, vaguely retro guitar rock, the first half of this release features tight, radio-targeted Janklow material, like the singles "Grow Your Own" and "Big Fine Thing," -- the former especially had a respectable showing on the modern rock charts. When Janklow and bandmates Joe Magistro (drums) and David Sellar (bass) stretch out both instrumentally and thematically on the record's second half, however, is when Big Fine Thing heats up. The wide open power-blues jamming on "RSVP" is a rare treat of excessive soloing and actual live interplay on record between rock musicians -- the rarest of '90s rock experiences. The dynamic "Not Again" is perhaps the best track, with "New York City" coming in a close second. Perhaps a little too creative and instrumentally adept for their own good (in careerist terms), Darlahood have plenty of chops and great musical instincts on unconventional display in this, their one and only major-label release.

Mick Clarke first attracted attention in 1968, playing guitar in the south London-based duo Killing Floor with Bill Thorndycraft (vocals/harmonica). They made two well-received albums, Killing Floor in 1969 and Out of Uranus the following year. Killing Floor played in London and elsewhere in the U.K., backing American bluesman Freddie King, and also jammed with other visitors, including Howlin' Wolf. In mid-1972 Killing Floor folded, but Clarke played with Daddy Longlegs before forming his own band, Salt, in the mid-'70s, recording the rare EP All Wired Up in 1978.
After a spell in the United States, Clarke returned to the U.K. at the start of the '80s to form the Mick Clarke Band. For the next two decades the band worked extensively, touring the U.K. and Europe, receiving critical acclaim for their live shows and albums. Critics and audiences in the U.S. also reacted very favorably to the band. In 2005 the band included drummer Chris Sharley (drums, ex-Sassafras), Dave Rea (bass), and Dave Lennox (keyboards). Among other musicians who have worked with Clarke over the years are keyboard player Peter Terry; bass players Mick Phillips, Len Davies, Ian Ellis, Eddie Masters, and Russell Prett; blues harpists Stevie Smith, Dave Newman and Mark Feltham; and drummers Ron Berg, Slash, Mike Hirsh, and Wilgar Campbell. An important part of the repertoire of Clarke's bands are his own compositions, which include "Murderers' Home," "Cheap," "Walking in the Dark," "The Killingest Place," "Second Hand Dream," and "New Star Over Texas."

CBDB is an Alabama band. Purveyors of Joyfunk: A blend of progressive rock, funk, folk, and jam fusion, resulting in an original and unavoidably danceable sound. Combining heavy improvisation with detailed composition, CBDB's live performances garner high praise from audiophiles and casual observers alike.
Funky and a real headbanger, Cbdb’s second album Joyfunk is Dead captures many different sounds that showcases the evolution of the band since its debut album Phones. Keys. Wallet.  Released earlier in 2015, Joyfunk is Dead is making headway in the underground music scene as it is quickly becoming the band’s ticket to venues all around the southeast.  Right from the get go, the album starts off with a gritty rocker called “Stuffed Avocados” and continues this trend throughout the whole album.  The following that the band has accumulated over the years is beginning to look more and more like the following of many bands that tour heavily and play the music festival scene.

16. Let's Talk About Us - 3:59

Musicians:
Billy Bremner – Guitar, Vocals
Dave Edmunds – Guitar, Vocals
Nick Lowe – Bass, Vocals
Terry Williams – Drums

In 1980, Nick Lowe, Dave Edmunds, Billy Bremner and Terry Williams, collectively known as Rockpile, released their only official album, Seconds of Pleasure.  On August 23rd, 2011, they released their second.  It’s called Live at Montreux 1980.
Sure we know there were about four or five more albums that could have been called Rockpile, except Dave Edmunds was contracted to one label and Nick Lowe to another, so we never had a second Rockpile album.
This one is a live album and features 16 tracks. You’ll find some goodies from all three “franchises, “there are some Rockpile tunes, some songs that were on Dave’s albums and some songs that were on Nick’s.  It’s just full of great songs, power pop at its finest, and they really rip thru them as well.
“Sweet Little Lisa” opens the set before they rush quickly Nick Lowe’s “And So It Goes.”  The mix is slightly off on this one but that OK. This isn’t Steely Dan for crying out loud. It’s four piece, short tune, rock and roll. If it sounds like it’s being played in someone’s garage, well fine with me.  However, we’re not going to someone’s garage. We’re going out tonight!  We’re going to a party. A wedding party!
We’re going because “I Knew The Bride,” and she looked as good as always. I was a little surprised to Dave’s “Queen of Hearts” was also invited to the party.   She wasn’t the only girl there, we also ran into “Switchboard Susan.”  Maybe they were all there to see the “Trouble Boys?”  Why do they always like the trouble boys? Maybe it’s because of “Girls Talk.”  I think they should have listened to their “Teacher Teacher.”
The party was only about half way over at this point. You want in? Well, “I Hear You Knockin.’“ but you can’t come in. Why, as expected, things got a little out of hand, but soon enough the band would be “Crawling From the Wreckage” and then they would “Let it Rock” or at least “They Call It Rock.”  The “Ju Ju Man” did but lastly, “Let’s Talk About Us”.

Mick was born in London in 1950 and brought up in Wimbledon. In 1965, his life changed forever as a result of seeing Eric Clapton play at his school’s fair. Realizing that he had been bitten by the blues bug, Mick formed his first professional band in 1968 called Killing Floor (named after a Howlin’ Wolf song) which was chosen to back up Texas blues star, Freddie King on his tour of the United Kingdom. During the a subsequent tour with Freddie, the band was fortunate to meet and jam with many blues greats, including Otis Spann and Howlin’ Wolf. When the band broke up in 1972 Mick went on to work and tour with ‘60’s pop star Cliff Bennett and Daddy Longlegs, before forming the powerful rock-blues band Salt, which was very popular on the British club and college circuit.
In 1984 the Mick Clarke Band was formed and the first album "Looking For Trouble" was released followed by "Rock Me" and "All These Blues" on the Italian label, Appaloosa. After a successful U.S. West Coast tour Mick recorded ‘West Coast Connection’ in Portland Oregon that featured former members of the Robert Cray Band. Additional albums soon follow on several different lables. He has released four titles on Burnside Records: ‘Steel & Fire’ (featuring Fleetwood Mac producer, Mike Vernon), ‘Tell The Truth,’ ‘No Compromise,’ and ‘Happy Home’, all which placed Mick firmly in the lap of blues enthusiasts everywhere as a premiere British blues guitarist.
Over the last 15 years the Mick Clarke Band has become one the most successful and hard working blues/rock bands in Europe, touring constantly in every country from Finland down to Italy. He has gathered some talented musicians and created a recording overflowing with original material and blues standards. Mick’s brand of rocking blues never fails to deliver the goods. As one U.S. reviewer put it - "if you don’t see the Mick Clarke Band Kick yourself!"

Emphasizing on melodic grooves, jazz, and progressive jams, artvandalay's "Fat Accomplice" provides a heavy sound that rips through immediate, consecutive changes and melds delicately into mellow resolutions.
Artvandalay began as an improvisational music project in a house-basement during the summer of 2003 in Knoxville, TN. Emphasizing on melodic grooves, jazz, lyrical harmonies, and progressive jams, the band definitely provides a heavy sound that rips through immediate, consecutive changes and melds delicately into mellow resolutions. Naturally, the 5-piece band extended its musical instrumentation to a total of 6 pieces in 2005, including Charlie Moorefield on keys and vocals, Dustin Milotte and Bryan Benson on guitars and vocals, Will Ross on bass, Nathan Barrett on percussion, and Chris Peck on drums, to provoke a full-out musical brawl of intriguing sounds and progressions. The year of 2006 yielded their first album titled Fat Accomplice, and just like their live performances, the album flows intrinsically from an atmospheric and dreamy quiescence to a fast-paced and energetic burst of rock. Harmonic guitar licks and vocals top off the tightly strung band with original flair. Guitar, keyboard, percussion, and drum solos sporadically occur throughout their performances, accentuating their expanding musical talent. Artvandalay's eclectic form of creating live music, being a progressive jam band, is bound to keep listeners movin' and groovin'.

Debbie Davies is one of the top blues artists in the world. An award winning singer, songwriter, and guitar player, she has been a professional musician since the early 1980s. She has received ten nominations for Blues Music Awards, and in 1997 and 2010 won the award for Best Contemporary Female Blues Artist. Davies cut her teeth playing in blues and rock 'n roll bands in the San Francisco Bay area before returning to Los Angeles in 1984, where she played lead guitar in Maggie Mayall and the Cadillacs, an all-female band led by wife of British blues pioneer, John Mayall. In 1988 she was recruited by Albert Collins to join the Icebreakers, and for the next three years she was a featured guitarist performing behind one of the most innovative bluesmen of all time. Debbie played on John Mayall's 1990 album, A Sense of Place, and in 1991 she recorded with Albert Collins and the Icebreakers on the Grammy nominated self-titled release for Point Blank/Virgin Records. In September 1993 Davies came out with her debut solo release on Blind Pig Records, which featured a cameo by Collins. Since then, Debbie has produced eleven solo recordings (including 2009's ground-breaking and acclaimed all instrumental Holding Court, on Little Dipper/Vizztone) and two collaborative CD's with guitarists Tab Benoit, Kenny Neal, Anson Funderburgh and Otis Grand. The roster of other artists who have joined Debbie on her recordings reads like a who's who of the blues: Albert Collins, Ike Turner, JamesCotton, Mick Taylor, Peter Green, Coco Montoya, Duke Robillard, Tommy Shannon, Chris "Whipper" Layton, Sugar Ray Norcia, Charlie Musselwhite, Bruce Katz.. Debbie also played with Robin Rogers and Tommy Castro's Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise Revue. Debbie Davies' music has always encompassed many of the blues styles as well as reflected the music she heard as a youth. So when she sings It's All Blues, she is truly putting her arms around all of the blues styles from Chicago to New Orleans, New York to Austin, to LA. Love Spin reaffirms Debbie's place among the blues elite. In addition to her usual band mates, the album features Terry Hanck (sax, vocals), Dana Robbins (sax), Dave Keys (piano) and Jay Stollman (vocals).

Additional Personnel:
Ronny Lahti - additional backing vocals on "I Love You" and "Fields of Rape";
Basil Rodriguez - string arrangements on "When You Were Mine";
Richard Drexler - piano on "When You Were Mine";
Basil Rodriguez - trumpet on "Sentimental Girl";
Keith Jacobs - RMM Community Choir director on "Water".

Water is another fine album by Saigon Kick that unfortunately undermines its own merits by trying to employ too many sounds at once. The same problem plagued Saigon Kick's first two releases, as the bandmembers hedged their bets while trying to embrace the dying metal scene as well as the embryonic alternative one at the same time. The band presents a dizzying array of stylistic shifts in the course of 14 songs, changing from alternative to punk, pop, metal, and ballads at the drop of a hat. The group most resembles Jane's Addiction for the majority of the album, although it offers a nifty cover of David Bowie's "Space Oddity" done with a real Mick Ronson flair. In a way, the album resembles a very scaled-down version of Smashing Pumpkins' Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. However, Saigon Kick wasn't as adept at this approach and the record, while solid, is too schizophrenic to leave much of a lasting impression. Eclecticism has been a hallmark of good rock since Revolver, and in the right hands this approach can be a welcome relief from artists who rewrite one song for their whole careers. However, Saigon Kick overdoes it and can't quite pull it off. It's definitely better than the band's alleged hair metal roots would indicate, but Greatest Mrs.: The Best of Saigon Kick would be a better overall choice for most.

13Ghosts - Liar's Melody

Bitrate: 320K/s
Year: 2011
Time: 35:51
Size: 82,3 MB
Label: This is American Music
Styles:Classic Rock/Roots Rock/Alt.Rock
Art: Front

Tracks Listing:
 1. Water, Rise - 4:18
 2. Broken Objects - 2:44
 3. Cocksuckers - 3:40
 4. Gimmie Back - 3:44
 5. Prophesaries - 4:12

 7. Tractor Rut - 2:18
 8. Glory! Glory! - 3:05
 9. Liar's Melody - 3:53
10. Born to Rock and Roll - 4:58

"13ghosts – named after the classic 13 Alabama ghosts and Jeffrey by Thomasville’s late Kathryn Tucker Windham – has been around since the 1990s with chief songwriter Brad Armstrong, Sammy Boggan, Jason Lucia, and Andrew Vernon (now without Buzz Russell). They have recorded several albums with Skybucket Records that deserve listening and recieved high praise from outlets like Pitchfork Media - including Cicada (2005) and The Strangest Colored Lights (2008) and several self-released albums before that.
Their newest release is Liar’s Melody.  The label’s claim that “what is perhaps most notable about this record is the staggering range of its tracks…its inter-song diversity” is entirely true.  It ranges from the straightforward, aggressive rock of “Cocksuckers” and “Born to Rock and Roll” to the Southern country-rock “Tractor Rut” to the two collaborations with Maria Taylor “Broken Objects” and “Liar’s Melody.”  These latter two songs are the standouts, but the variation throughout the album is what makes it a good one. (N.B.: A review of Ms. Taylor’s latest album will be coming this week.)
The main problem is that Liar’s Melody is only available on the website of their new label This Is American Music.  Only two songs are available to preview online – and those are not necessarily the album’s strongest tracks (compared to the Taylor collaborations). People have gotten spoiled by regional bands making their entire albums available for preview on sites like Bandcamp and Soundcloud (or at least snippets on Amazon or iTunes), and being able to purchase individual songs.  That’s how they grow. Although the entire album is only $5, those unfamiliar with 13ghosts, which unfortunately includes most South Alabamans, may be unwilling to buy the album without a preview.  And its inaccesibility may explain why, despite favorable reviews for the band’s previous two albums on national sites, incredibly we are the only site that we know of to review the album so far. That is unfortunate, because it is worth listening to."

Texas Oil pump nasty and straightforward rock and roll 70s and Hurriganes spirit. But Hurriganes cover band, it is not. Influences and attitude are the same, but direct copying Texas Oil is not the source.

Once upon a time, in the 1980s in George West,Texas, there was a thrash-metal band that achieved a bit of success. Having started families, the members decided to take the 90s off to raise their kids.Well, it wasn't long before these guys felt the itch again, that need to write and perform. As bandleader Bob Strause puts it, "Once we heard distorted guitars on Ragweeds's Live and Loud at the Wormy Dog.And with Reckless Kelly putting fiddle on their rock songs, we knew we could find a home once again in the Texas music scene."
Out of the brush and prickly pear (hence the name) of Live Oak County,The Pear Ratz were born, with core members Bob Strause on rhythm and vocals, and Rodd Daws on bass, along with San Antonio's "Gentleman" Joe Talbert on the lead guitar, and John Starek on drums. The Pear Ratz 2006 debut album, Rat Now, set the tone for what would come to be called "Ratz Rock", a raw amalgam of country, rock, and honky-tonk. They followed up quickly with their 2007 Sophmore release, Holier Than Thou, which peaked at #2 on XM Radio's XCountry Countdown.
The Pear Ratz' latest record Rat Outta Hell sports a stylishly illustrated cover and a sound that is slicker than the first two albums, but still raw enough to stay true to the Ratz Rock sound. That means it includes plenty of country, plenty of rock, and a song affectionately known as "Killin U3" - a collaboration with Rich O'Toole called "Cheaters" - that continues the murder ballad tradition. Following the release of Rat Outta Hell the Pear Ratz took time away from their touring play a Memorial Day concert in Qatar for the U.S.Armed Forces stationed in the Middle East.

Greedy Pig - Boogiedriller

In the mid eighties when Greedy Pig gave out it's first grunt, punk and new wave were at the height of the boom in Finland. Though southern style - rock'n'roll wasn't very popular at that time these guys wanted to boogie and they kept their head. The band's name and die hard- attitude on stage earned regognition across the table from rock'n'roll to new wave. "We played hard an' loud, we were real punk - boogie - drillers!"
After a few singles came the band's debut- album Rye Rye Man. Songs like "Ain't no substitute', Drinkin' bad water, an' Sweet little darlin' " got good air play and made the band a name in r&b and rock 'n' roll circles.
The second album Junkfood continued along the same lines with slightly rougher sounds and sturdier beat. "Livin' on junkfood , Medicine Man and Mule called America " were songs that seemed to be most popular among the fans. Between and after releasing the two albums Greedy Pig toured in Scandinavia and played a few gigs with the famous British r&b group Dr Feelgood.
But rock 'n' roll -life and livin' on junkfood took it's toll and part of the band wanted to see the " normal life" (what's that?) and active touring with this line-up ended. But the main thing - music - kept on smouldering...
The flame burst out again in -95 when GP's singer/songwriter started a new band called The Drills. The band consentrated more on touring than studiowork and one bootleg "swampmusic" was the only thing that game out from The Drills. The music was a mixture of laid back southern moods and hard- bite guitar rhytms spiced with nasty blues harmonica and bottleneck- guitar.
The band's motto was "Ya just can't drill a rock by listenin' to that fuckin' finn-tango-shit!". Even though nothing was released songs like "stompin' grounds", "Idle motion", and "Trouble ridin'" were written, the latter one being included here. Meanwhile...
The behind the scene - work of Greedy Pig's manager paid off and joined players from Drills and GP with British guitar legend Mick Green from The Pirates. The Mick Green band made a tour in spring -99 playing famous Pirates songs. In the audience you could find everything from fifties haircuts, pony tails and bell - shaped skirts to iroquois - heads with leather an' chrome outfit.
After Mick Green- band tour Greedy Pig did random gigs and kept the motor running to prove right once again the message of the song "Ain't no substitute".
"Rock'n'roll is a lifestyle, it's something in common to those on stage and those in front of it whether you're fifteen or sixty. When it comes to rock'n'roll the main thing is the music not changing trends or styles."
That's right! Teddies, punks and motorheads rockin' their brains out without hostilities. Unfortunately tight schedule prevented the originally planned studio-sessions. Mick's earlier engagements with Van Morrison and Paul McCartney were more pressing at that time. But successful tour left all parties determined to play together again and gave also a new spark to Greedy Pig's effort.
Hello good looking women, punks and boogie-drillers!
Lucky stroke ! There´s been real good stuff going on with the band during these four years (r&r included) like:
- Some good gigs & social misbehaviour, fights and shotgun-threats
- New rock and roll songs & broken legs, wrists and hipbone and marriages of course ! (4 recorded and 4 splinted and plastered)
- Different kinda stimulant consumption - in good and bad & kidney injury.
- Close shave, in and under water (trout is a fish and bassplayer is a drunkfish)
And finally some changes in the crew which lead to a current situation and revelation. The fuckin' Pig's alive and livin' pretty dirty at the pigsty. DAMN !

7 Door Sedan is hook-driven rock and roll with a dash of glam and punk attitude. Harmony and tight guitar interplay bring out the best in songs that have been compared to T-Rex and Television. In the late 70?s, 7 Door Sedan front man Glenn Kowalski (previously known as Jake Whipp) was a primary member of White Boy, one of Washington DC’s earliest punk bands. White Boy’s first release, “I Could Puke” was called “America’s fastest selling new wave disc” by New Musical Express. White Boy continued with several successful releases including “I Hate,” recently re-issued on the compilation “30 Seconds Over DC” by Henry Rollins.
In 2008, Glenn released the album “Killer Good” as 7 Door Sedan. After his extended hiatus from the stage, he returned and found experienced DC rockers to perform and further develop the band. The lineup: Glenn Kowalski on guitar and vocals, Ken Moss (Acrylix) on guitar and vocals, Josh Singer (Vampyre Bunnies) on bass, and Norman van der Sluys (Madhouse) on drums. In three years, 7 Door Sedan performed 40 shows in twenty venues throughout Washington DC, Maryland, and Northern VA. Art: Full

Tracks Listing:
 1. I Don't Believe - 4:25
 2. Tell Me Please - 3:24
 3. Let Your Love Go - 3:07
 4. I'll Be Alright - 4:34
 5. Mean Woman Blues - 4:23
 6. Find A Fool - 5:24
 7. Big Woman Blues - 6:31
 8. Take Time Out To Hear Me Some Blues - 4:36
 9. Party's On - 5:11
10. On More Song (Live) - 5:32
11. You Got Yours I Got Mine (Live) - 5:31

The Jumpin Jack Benny band start off their latest release "I'll Be Alright", with a fast paced Ronnie Earl/Darrell Nulish song called "I Don't Believe", and from that moment on, you I am sure, will come to know why this dynamic group of musicians are considered to be one of the most entertaining acts out there.
Jumpin Jack Benny are Frontman Entertainer Extraordinaire Benny Cortez (Vocals/Harmonica), Tony Fingers (Guitar), Eric Tice (Drums), Mike Stover (Bass), and Kirk Nelson (Keyboards). Tony Fingers also Produced "I'll Be Alright". Together, they serve up one tasty treat of Blues, Rock, R&B, Soul and Funk. Collectively they have recorded and performed with "The Delgado Brothers, B.B. Chung King, Little Milton, WAR, El Chicano, Bo Diddley, and James Cotton", to name a few. Their talent has certainly not gone unknown as they placed 2nd runner up at the 2011 Battle Of The Blues Harps, and 2nd runner up at the 2008 International Blues Challenge. Jumpin Jack Benny, say they draw their inspiration from Legends "Koko Taylor, Little Walter, James Brown, Paul Butterfield, Freddy King, and S.R.V.", and that is certainly apparent on "I'll Be Alright".
In addition to the band, there were an amazing 10 additional performers whom added their magic to various Tracks.
"I'll Be Alright" consists of 11 Tracks of music clocking in at a very respectable 50+ minutes. Of the 11 Tracks Benny Cortez & Tony Fingers co-wrote 6 of them with Eric Tice and Mike Stover also getting in on the co-writing action on one of the 6, Track 4, the title Track. In addition to the Cover of Ronnie Earl/Darrell Nulish song, "I'll Be Alright" contains great Covers from Brother Red/James Achor "Mean Woman Blues", Koko Taylor/Denise La Salle "Find A Fool", Little Milton/George Henry Jackson "Take Time Out To Hear me Some Blues", and Smokin Joe Kubek/Denise La Salle "One More Song". "One More Song" is actually 1 of 2 Live Tracks on "I'll Be Alright", the other being the closing Track "You Got Yours I Got Mine". Those 2 Tracks gave us a great opportunity to hear what they sound like Live, and I must say, it's pretty darn good.
As mentioned earlier "I'll Be Alright" runs the gamut of Blues, Rock, R&B, Soul and Funk. For the Blues fan, Track 5 "Mean Woman Blues" and Track 7 "Big Woman Blues", are standout tunes, the first one being faster paced then the second, but both showing off Benny Cortez's amazing Vocal delivery and Tony Fingers doing sizzling Guitar work.
The title Track, "I'll Be Alright", shows off their R&B prowess as they sing "Don't Worry I'm Gonna Be Alright", and with the way they deliver this number, they certainly are going to be alright.
Track 3, "Let Your Love Go", does a mighty fine job of Rockin' out, as does Benny Cortez on Harmonica. Tony Fingers takes on the Bass on this Track as he does on 2 other Tracks, "Take Time Out To Hear me Some Blues" and "Find A Fool". One of the Special Guests, Danny Ayala gets in on the action on Backup Vocals.
The Live Track, "One More Song", has Jumpin Jack Benny getting down with their Funky side and is a great lead up to the Swingin Blues feel of the closer "You Got Yours I Got Mine". Everyone gets in on the action on this barn burner of a finale.
For me, "I'll Be Alright" was one heck of a good listen, courtesy of one heck of a good band. These guys sure know how to deliver the Blues and it very close cousins.
Special thanks goes out to Frank Roszak of Frank Roszak Radio Promotions, who has introduced me to an amazing amount of talent over the last year, of which Jumpin Jack Benny is no exception.
