A blend of Americana, Roots rock, blues and Texas music! Mix some Steve Earle, ZZ Top, and Drive-By Truckers up together and you'll be right there!
Dick LeMasters performs original Americana and Texas music as a solo artist, with duo partner Douglas Greer, and with the band Longneck Road. LeMasters was born and raised in Beaumont, Texas, and grew up listening to artists such as Jerry Jeff Walker, Ray Wylie Hubbard, and Joe Ely. His original songs reflect that background as well as the influence of current favorites James McMurtry, Mike Cooley, Steve Earle, Paul Thorn and Fred Eaglesmith. LeMasters performs in Southeast Texas and Austin, and is a regular performer at the Songwriters’ Cafe event in Beaumont, Texas.
The following is a description of the songs that appear on the brand new Dick LeMasters album One Bird, Two Stones.
I have always felt that I could say things in my song lyrics that I could never say in real life. Kind of like Jim Croce’s line: “I’ll have to say I love you in a song”. I like the fact that nobody knows for sure whether a song is simply the product of creative writing or whether it’s the only socially acceptable way to communicate something that you really feel or believe, or need to say to someone but never could in any other way. Putting the inspiration and stories down in black and white is a little scary to me; however, my public relations man deems it to be a positive step. So, here goes.
I write songs with the intent that they will be songs that I will perform at my shows. If I ever write a song that is good enough and it gets heard by the right person, some big-time singer might record it and I might actually make some money off of my musical adventure. Fingers remain crossed. For now, I have recorded an album of eleven songs that I wrote. The album is titled “One Bird, Two Stones,” which is also the name of one of my songs. Throughout the process my friend, music duo partner, oftentimes background vocalist, and aforementioned public relations man Douglas Greer has offered valuable advice and guidance. He suggested that I write a brief description of the inspiration and story behind each song on the album. This is that.

Jesper Munk - Claim

Year: 2015
Time: 44:56
Size: 103,4 MB
Label: Warner
Styles: Blues
Art: Front

Tracks Listing:
 1. Courage For Love - 2:32
 2. Morning Coffee - 3:35
 3. Shakespeare And Heartbreak - 3:51
 4. Ya Don't Have To Say Goodbye - 2:34
 5. Soldiers Of Words - 3:03

 8. 101 Proof - 3:31
 9. Reeperbahn - 2:58
10. Guilty - 2:41
11. The Parched Well - 3:45
12. Smalltalk Gentlemen - 2:47
13. Cold Waters - 3:30
14. Takes Two - 4:18

Eighteen months after the release of his highly acclaimed debut album, Jesper Munk now presents his second: CLAIM, a musical journey from Los Angeles via New York to Munich and the more rural surroundings of Niederding. This time Jesper has spent time with the producers Mocky (Feist, Jamie Lidell), Jon Spencer (Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Heavy Trash, Pussy Galore) and Sepalot (Blumentopf), who bring new enhanced features to his work, along with his own productions. He has extended his spectrum as a singer, songwriter and guitarist with 14 exciting songs from Rock, Postpunk and Glam to Folk and Soul without ignoring his Blues beginnings. This variety is held together as a matter of course by Jesper’s extraordinary voice, which has never before been heard in such intensity. “CLAIM” brings the listener into the musical world of a young man who wears his heart on his vocal cords.
Time flew by for Jesper Munk. While still singing as a street musician, he was discovered through radio and hailed as a “Wunderkind” with a voice from the Mississippi Delta and pin up looks. His career took off. The first album “For In My Way It Lies” attracted rave reviews from audiences and media alike and led to three solo tours through Germany plus supports for legends such as Michael Hurley, Willard Grant Conspiracy and Eric Burdon & the Animals as well as top German acts such as Saint Lu, Bosse and Sportfreunde Stiller. The 22 year-old Danish-German almost single handedly made Blues and his style of playing popular for a new generation in Germany. It now seems hardly surprising that the music press soon made comparisons with the likes of Jack White, The Black Keys and Gary Clark Jr.
That however was just the beginning. In his new album “CLAIM” he goes off the beaten path, taking himself and the listener into unchartered musical territory with the help of accomplished but stylistically different producers. It opens with the Blues-Punk “Courage for Love”, produced by Jon Spencer in the legendary N.Y. Hed Studio of Matt Verta-Ray on the Lower East Side. This is followed in altogether different fashion by a Soul ballad “Morning Coffee”, more in the style of Al Green or The Commodores. The “imaginary” James Bond soundtrack “Shakespeare and Heartbreak”, produced by Sepalot, is accompanied with beats and brass, while “Ya Don’t Have To Say Goodbye” picks up speed and takes us in J.J. Cale-style to West Coast USA and the Kingsize Soundlabs with Mocky and his resident session musicians.
A quieter and more serious tone comes with dark bass and keyboards in “Soldiers of Words” and “Clean”, in which the singer offers a personal insight into the world of his soul and feelings. “White Picket Fence” would have found admirers among the post punk crowd of the late 80s Big Apple scene. It was recorded in the Jon Spencer-New York sessions with Clemens Graf Finck von Finckenstein on drums and Rainer Germann on Bass using analogue equipment from the 1950s and 60s..
Jesper Munk explains it as “the bittersweet conflict between traditional values and an unavoidable break away from conventionality.” Hints of Tarantino and Glamrock sounds are evident in “101 Proof” and “Reeperbahn”. Fans of the founder of Blues-Punk will be interested to know that Jon Spencer himself provides the stomping and clapping in best Slade/T Rex tradition for the song about Hamburg’s “Mile of Sin”. Randy Newman’s late night ballad “Guilty” brings back some light through a magnificent vocal performance, which together with accordion and Hammond organ has already become a highlight of Munk’s live set. As the title suggests, “Parched Well” brings sounds of echoes with reduced beats and a playful arrangement followed by another rise in tempo in the Blues-Rock smash “Smalltalk Gentlemen. After the folky tunes of “Cold Waters” the listener is taken back to New York by the more somber “It Takes Two” - and may well remain there for a while in a state of trance. Has all this really been achieved by a 22 year old Danish-German from Munich? You don’t have to be a clairvoyant to agree with the views of his producers, colleagues and the media, that Jesper Munk has a great international career ahead of him.

JW-Jones’ High Temperature, produced by Colin Linden, is the follow up to the JUNO Award nominated Belmont Boulevard, which was nominated for a Maple Blues Award, held the #1 position on roots radio stations across Canada for 13 weeks, and catapulted him to the Billboard Top 10 Blues charts in the USA.  With every release, Jones looks to explore new musical relationships. “I’ve been a fan of Colin’s for as long as I have been recording, and to finally get the chance to work with him on my ninth studio project was really special. His spirit and energy in the studio brought out inspired performances from everyone in the room, and the results are better than I could have imagined!”.  “JW-Jones is ready to take his place among the greater blues-based musicians of the 21st century, and I’m honoured to work on his new record” says Colin Linden. Linden (an 8-time JUNO and GRAMMY winner), is the musical director for the hit TV series ‘Nashville’ and has produced over 100 projects from Bruce Cockburn to Colin James.  High Temperature features the touring band Laura Greenberg and Mathieu Lapensee, as well as an all-star cast of session musicians; bassist Dominic Davis (Jack White, Tom Jones, Beck), keyboard player Kevin McKendree (Brian Setzer, Delbert McClinton), and drummer Bryan Owings (Emmylou Harris, Robert Plant). Liam Russell sings harmonies on several tracks, and JW welcomes his first recorded duet with hit-songwriter Jaida Dreyer on her song How Many Hearts (co-written with Colin Linden). The release features original songs penned with the incredible Ottawa-based songwriter, Dick Cooper (Cooper Brothers), including the deeply personal “Who I Am”, which Jones uses as a vehicle to open-up even more than on Belmont Boulevard’s “Cocaine Boy”.  In early 2016, JW-Jones was requested directly from George Thorogood & The Destroyers’ management to open several Canadian tour dates, and he toured the UK for the first time, creating a buzz that resulted in glowing endorsements from members of the band Vintage Trouble, and Joe Bonamassa’s UK publicist, Peter Noble. In 2015/2016, JW played over 100 high-energy shows, including being invited five times to perform alongside Buddy Guy, and two with Woodstock legends, Canned Heat. Jones has now toured in twenty-three countries and four continents and Jones has support from blues royalty; Jimmie Vaughan, Robert Cray, and the late Johnny Winter. 2017 looks promising for this rising star!  “JW-Jones is a breath of fresh air in this era of so much musical-fluff. Acclaimed Nashville producer Colin Linden takes Jones into new territory with warm, analog-driven tones, and a wide-range of material. His evolution as a musician and vocalist shine through on this record like never before. Real songs, real playing by real people, and JW is the real deal.” – Chuck Leavell (The Rolling Stones)
High Temperature is Jones’ 9th studio CD release and drops on Friday, October 28, 2016. It will be available on iTunes, Amazon, and finer record stores everywhere.

Alvin has the good taste to employ an impressive list of guests including the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Billy Boy Arnold, Cesar Rosas from Los Lobos, James Intveld, and members of the Blasters (without brother Dave Alvin.) County Fair 2000 leaves no doubt that Phil Alvin is a premier musicologist, preserving and staying true to what he loves.
Philip Joseph "Phil" Alvin (born March 6, 1953 in Downey, California) is an American singer and guitarist. He is known primarily as the frontman of the roots-rock band The Blasters.
Alvin grew up in Downey, California in a music-loving family where he and his younger brother Dave were exposed to blues, rockabilly, and country. Inspired and influenced by the music they grew up with, Phil and Dave formed the rock and roll band The Blasters in the late 1970s with fellow Downey residents Bill Bateman and John Bazz. The group released five albums between 1980 and 1985. While never achieving mass market success in commercial terms, their recordings and concerts drew critical respect and a cult following across the United States and Europe.
In 1986, after The Blasters had disbanded, Alvin released a solo album, Un "Sung" Stories and returned to graduate school to pursue a master's degree in mathematics and artificial intelligence.
In the late 1980s he reconvened The Blasters, albeit without Dave Alvin (who chose instead to focus on a solo career). In 1994, he released a second solo album, County Fair 2000. In 2005, under Alvin's leadership, the revised configuration of The Blasters released a much anticipated studio album, 4-11-44, after more than a decade of touring.
On July 3, 2012 The Blasters returned with a new studio album, Fun On Saturday Night.

Say Zuzu is a roots rock band originally based in Newmarket, New Hampshire. The group was formed in 1992 by brothers Jon and James Nolan, and their longtime friend Cliff Murphy. Though they achieved little commercial success in the United States, the band developed a strong following in Italy where they toured for several years.
Say Zuzu "got its start on the Seacoast as a group of boys playing guitars in the bedroom of a little red Cape Cod house in Durham in 1988."[1] Those three boys were Jon and James Nolan and Cliff Murphy. The band originally chose the name Zuzu's Petals, after a scene from the movie It's a Wonderful Life; however, after discovering that several other bands out there had already chosen that name, they decided on "Say Zuzu," which references an old 1930s Nabisco ad.
The band released their first album, Highway Signs and Driving Songs, in 1995 without the help of a record label. The album was a roots rock fusion of country, rock, and folk. Despite its critical success, the album did little for the band in the United States. In 1997, however, it ended up in the hands of Paolo Caru, an influential rock critic in Italy, who became an instant fan. Caru's influence shot the band to relative success in Italy and they quickly began an international tour.[2] The band's next album, Take These Turns, was released in 1997 and became a very successful followup to Highway Signs and Driving Songs.
In 1998, Say Zuzu released their most critically acclaimed album, Bull. The release of Bull signaled a more mature Say Zuzu than the band that had come on the scene in 1995, and earned them several nods from record companies as well as more commercial success in the US. The next year, the band released a live album entitled Live.
After much touring, bassist James Nolan decided it was in his best interest to leave the band in pursuit of a graduate degree in international relations. He and drummer Steve Ruhm left the band in 2001 under good terms. The band forged on, and hired Jon Pistey and Tim Nylander to play bass and drums respectively. In 2002, they released their final album, Every Mile. The band toured behind the album and decided to retire.[1]
Cliff Murphy now lives in Baltimore, Maryland with his wife, two daughters, and a son. Jon Nolan remains on the seacoast of New Hampshire where he continues to play music locally. He has released two solo albums, When the Summers Lasted Long in 2005 and Everything Has Changed in 2013.

Deep in the quagmire of mainstream pop culture, the blues continue to bubble, and it's purists such as vocalist  Cathy   Jean  who keep the genre percolating. " Tear   Me   Apart " is a solid mixture of melancholy melodies, balls-to-the-walls blues rockers, and impassioned ballads. Recorded in what sounds like totally live-in-the-studio fashion (very few overdubs are detectable),  Cathy   Jean's  debut twists and turns through a 14-song mountain of blues standards that would make the Swiss Alps envious. And yet, no matter who she borrows from, her voice is a beautiful instrument that serves her needs perfectly-- soulful and soaring, sultry and sexy, and subtly vulnerable at just the right moments. More importantly (and more thoroughly than anyone who comes immediately to mind), CJ inserts her persona and preoccupations into these cover versions; and her takes on classic tracks such as "I'm A Man" (re-written from a female slant) and "One Good Man" makes the former her own and gives new life to the tepid latter. She makes "Who Do You Love" a moving, varied song, as opposed to the schlock electric blues George Thorogood squeezed a hit from. From the spirited, up tempo romp of "Hello Little Boy" to the temperature-rising torch of "Sweet Blood Call," right on through the busy organ and big vocal pyrotechnics of "Rollin' & Tumblin'," " Tear   Me   Apart " does a marvelous job raising blood pressure. And on the swaying "Baby Get Lost," she piques the libido with, "I got so many men they're standing in line." Hmmmm... where do I take a number? On " Tear   Me   Apart ," this lady doesn't just sing the blues, she feels 'em. And when that voice works each end of her angelic register (and every note in between), you can't help but feel 'em right along with her. That  Cathy   Jean  has absorbed the obvious influences the blues has to offer while escaping their cliches already says a great deal about how tough this woman is. --MUSIC MONTHLY MAGAZINE, USA
Listening to the album " Tear   Me   Apart ", you become aware of one thing:  Cathy   Jean  is a most versatile and inventive artist for a woman still on the right side of thirty. On this debut set she covers a wide range of songs and sounds, which each test her abilities in various styles of blues, jazz, and jump. This whole album is interesting and entertaining, and doesn't lose anything by repeated playing.  Cathy   Jean  knows how to pace herself, be it over a 2 1/2 minute rockin' number, or a 5 1/2 minute blues cut about needing "One Good Man". Of all the fine material contained on the set, perhaps it's "That's All Right", a bare bones acapella number which best indicates the cloth she is cut from. This gal isn't afraid to go out there and lay it all on the line, and let the listeners decide. Others have compared her to Janis Joplin. There is indeed a similarity, Joplinesque phrasing does creep in, but this is no copyist. Just as her cover of the Billie Holiday classic "Do Nothing 'Til You Hear From Me" is similar in approach to Lady Day's version, but by no means an impersonation. What we are hearing is the application of the best aspects of a past talent, put to good use by a new talent, and that's always been the case in most art forms.  Cathy   Jean  is a real star in the waiting. Very deserving of recognition and success. Equally important on this album are the fine musicians in the backing band. There are some wonderful solos and nice touches from all involved, never overshadowing but certainly enhancing the vocals. Recordings made "live in the studio" appear to be in vogue at the
moment. This album is such a collection, cut over a three day period in '95, but it works. The band comes together with each
other and with  Cathy   Jean . Her comment, "that was fine", at the close of the first number, is a real understatement if ever there was one! Featuring little post-recording tampering, you get an amazingly fresh feel which draws you into it. You can't help but like this attractive blonde from Baltimore, who has and wears more rings than Ringo Starr!! --DENMARK BLUES MAGAZINE

Chris has been performing with the Bruce Katz Band for ten years, but really steps into the limelight on this album, singing and writing tunes, along with Katz. In fact, this album is a true complete band effort, with longtime drummer Ralph Rosen also contributing tunes to the CD, alongside the bandleader, Bruce Katz.
Out From the Center is both eclectic and accessible, incorporating emotional blues rooted music as well as traveling the wide world of blues , as Katz calls it. This means the band touches down on jam tunes, traditional piano blues and Boogie Woogie and Hammond B3 powered soul jazz as well.
The album consists of eleven original tunes, and continues the band's tradition of combining virtuosic playing, raw emotion and a truly original sound, one that is coming from the soul of the Blues tradition while simultaneously growing that tradition. This is exciting, vital music from a band in its creative prime.

Live At Paradiso recorded in 2004 at a show in Amsterdam while on a wildly successful European tour, Paradiso draws its 13 performances from a DVD released in March 2005, and it is the first time since that one-off, mid-afternoon VH1 show that the enormity of that voice has been done justice. The tracklist is unassailable, including the best songs from her first two releases (a nine-plus minute rendition of “Am I The One” and the title track from Immortal; “L.A. Song,” “Delicious Surprise,” “Mama,” and “Get Your Shit Together” from Screamin’ For My Supper), the previously mentioned rockers plus the three singles (“World Without You,” “Lifts You Up,” and the title track) from Leave The Light On, and two choice covers. Even on the relatively subdued, Adult Top 40-ready songs like “Leave The Light on” and “L.A. Song,” Hart goes for broke in her deliveries, singing as though entirely unbeholden to constructs of what conventional singing should sound like.
But the bulk of Paradiso consists of harder-driving rock numbers that give Hart ample opportunity to belt, growl, and snarl until there’s not much room to doubt that she’s the best rock and blues singer alive. She reinvents Randy Newman’s “Guilty,” and when she wails, “I just can’t stand myself,” she does so in a way that channels what sounds like a lifetime worth of pain. That’s the kind of singer Beth Hart is, and she’s the only singer I’ve heard since Janis Joplin who can lay bare such intimate emotion without making a person feel like an eavesdropper for having heard it. And, whether it’s the self-deprecation of “Broken And Ugly” or the undiluted desperation of “Am I The One,” there’s at least one such moment on every track on Paradiso, and the run of songs from “Lifts You Up” to “Mama” is essentially one protracted gut-check. And then there’s the album-closing cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love,” which Hart delivers so aggressively that it makes the entirety of Sleater-Kinney’s brilliant The Woods sound demure and outdated in its sexual politics.
Hart’s band skillfully manages the task of keeping pace with her (guitarist Jon Nichols, in particular, gets plenty of room to show off), though their arrangements do occasionally lack her fearlessness. And, as is the case with most live albums, the audience banter is of limited charm. The sheer joy Hart takes in performing for and interacting with an appreciative crowd, however, keeps that banter from becoming tiresome at least through the album’s 17th listen. I won’t vouch for it beyond that. The power of Hart’s music, on the other hand, remains fully intact every time. Finally, gloriously, Beth Hart’s recorded performances match the weight of her best-written material. “They’d call me an icon,” she sings in “Delicious Surprise.” Billboard got it right. And with Live At Paradiso, it’s high time that everyone else got it too.

Eugene 'Hideaway' Bridges - Born To Be Blue

11. Good Thing - 5:05
12. A Change Is Gonna Come - 3:42

American guitarist, singer and writer Eugene ‘Hideaway’ Bridges first came to Europe in 1996, and he’s been a popular and pretty permanant addition to the blues scene here ever since, as well as having success at home, and here is a welcome re-release for his first album, “Born To Be Blue”, which was produced by Mike Vernon and appeared on the UK label, Blueside. He now has six albums to his name – the rest being on the Armadillo label.
Bridges spent time as a child in New Orleans, then later in San Antonio and Houston, Texas. With a guitar-playing father, Hideaway Slim – who became a preacher, and his mother coming from the Bullock family – from where one Annie Mae Bullock, better known as Tina Turner – came. With this family background he was perhaps destined to be both a fine guitarist and singer.
After spending time as part of Big Joe Turner’s Memphis Blues Caravan he eventually formed his own band, which led in turn to him coming to the attention of Blueside and this album. The 12 tracks on “Born To Be Blue” veer towards the soul side of blues, with gospel flavours and comprise all Bridges originals, bar two Sam Cooke songs. He’s accompanied by a fine group of musicians: Peter Zivkovic (piano), Robin Clayton (bass), Alan Savage (drums), Mike Vernon (percussion), James Hallawell (organ/’strings’) and George Chandler (vocals).
The opening “If You Don’t Wanna Love Me” perfectly captures the feel of the album, Bridges warm and soulful voice to the fore with the sympathetic band the perfect foil; the following “Little Boy Blue” moves into a more funky territory with some nice guitar leads; the pace taken down again for the soulful ballad “Tears Of A Fool”. His guitar roars on the uptempo blues shuffle of the title cut, “Born To Be Blue” . . . very much in that classic BB King groove, with a name check for the man himself and his guitar, “Lucille”, as well as many other blues legends . . . as Bridges tells us why he was destined to be a bluesman.
The slow blues of “Aching Heart” features more telling guitar work, and embellishment from the organ of James Hallawell, and another thoroughly convincing vocal from Eugene ‘Hideaway’ Bridges. The joyous, gospelly take on Sam Cooke’s “Good Times” is a standout as his voice rings out pure and true. Peter Zivkovic’s piano features on the rolling “(My Only Reason For Working) Ain’t No Reason No More”, with a distinctly Texas flavour, as he recalls his time in the ‘Lone Star’ state.
The blues shuffle of “Good Thang” illustrates Bridges fluent and clean guitar playing, with another strong vocal; however, perhaps the best is saved for last, as the album ends with a glorious version of Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come”, and often-recorded classic and done justice to here as Bridges voice soars with a reverential ‘nod’ to one of his musical influences and heroes.

Classic, original and groovable blues.
Band founder and lead singer, Gina Coleman, entered the music scene in the early 90’s as the lead singer of the folk/rock group Cole-Connection. It wasn’t until 1999 when she played a gospel singer in the Williamstown Theatre Festival production of A Raisin In The Sun that she was steered down the path of blues. The lead actor in the production, Rubin Santiago-Hudson, told Coleman that he felt her voice was well suited to sing classic blues. This sentiment was echoed by actor/singer, Mandy Patinkin, who sought her out after seeing the opening performance of the production. After actress Gwyneth Paltrow commented on her performance, Coleman knew a musical shift was imminent. Guitarist Jason Webster and bassist Bill Patriquin from Cole-Connection were on board and thus began Misty Blues.
With a deficit of blues music in the Berkshires at the time, they felt the musical change would be well received. Misty Blues pays homage to the older blues made popular by the bold and brassy women of its time, while still paying respect to classic male artists of the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s. The band hasn’t completely abandoned their musical roots; they frequently perform classic rock and folk tunes infused with a healthy dose of the blues. Over the years, Misty Blues has produced four albums, Electric Juke Joint features classic blues renditions, Roadhouse Revival is a dance-able twist on traditional gospel music, Between The Stacks their completely original album with Charles Neville on sax, and With All Due Respect which pays homage to some of the earliest blues music ever written. The core members are Gina Coleman, Jason Webster, Bill Patriquin, Jeff Dudziak, Benny Kohn, Aaron Dean and Rob Tatten. The band has been fortunate enough to perform with some great musicians in the Berkshires and beyond including Charles Neville, of the legendary Neville Brothers, Matt Berger, and Dave Vittone.~ https://www.cdbaby.com/cd/mistyblues3

Cris Jacobs will release his anticipated sophomore album, Dust to Gold, later this week. Hailing from Maryland, Jacobs has been crafting his sound for more than a decade. He started as the frontman for the roots-inspired jam band The Bridge. In 2012, he released his first solo project, Songs for Cats & Dogs, which caught the attention of some key players in the business. Jacobs has been a support act for both British rock legend Steve Winwood and modern country music hero Sturgill Simpson. Like Simpson, Jacobs spent his early musical years studying the masters of country music. He emulated the legendary country flatpickers like Doc Watson, Tony Rice and Norman Blake. Later he discovered the twangmasters Jerry Reed, Chet Atkins and Merle Travis. For vocal inspiration, he turned to some of 20th Century masters: Ray Charles, Merle Haggard and George Jones, just to name a few. On Dust to Gold (out on Oct. 21), Jacobs draws from the past and present and comes into full maturity as an artist. The album, which you can stream in its entirety below, is like a jukebox of Jacobs’ influences over the years.
“What I love about country music, and blues music, and soul music, is the feeling and the stories, which is something that can apply to any style,” he says. “These influences, they are just vitamins. If I keep on a healthy diet of them, the good stuff will seep through into my own creations.”
Jacobs’ music has a warmth that immediately draws you in. His voice and style tilts more towards blues, R&B and rock than it does to country. Still, you can tell he is a student of balladeers like George Jones. Dyed-in-the-wool country fans should start with “Jack Whistle & The Hammer.” It’s country with an R&B groove, and it displays Jacobs’ wide range of talents.

RAY FULLER AND THE BLUESROCKERS "Long Black Train" newest CD does not disappoint, bringing full tilt "smokin’ hot" slide guitar, Ray Fuller style, dishing out pure rockin' blues entertainment!
Guitar Player Magazine stated, "...Sounds like Elmore James and Houndog Taylor tempered with the rowdiness of George Thorogood." Ray Fuller and the Bluesrockers fans around the world could not agree more!
Known for his "Rockin' Slide Guitar Blues," RAY FULLER has headlined blues festivals and major blues venues throughout The USA, Canada, Europe and South Africa by putting on high energy, dynamic performances full of fire and energy. FULLER is signed with Bluebridge Network, a European touring agency.
FULLER'S talent and strength as a singer and guitarist has allowed him to share the stage with many blues legends including Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Albert Collins, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy, and The Fabulous Thunderbirds. Witnessing RAY FULLER'S opening act performance on slide guitar, MUDDY WATERS exclaimed for all to hear, "That was some hot slide boy! I could smell the smoke backstage!” JAMES COTTON, after witnessing a similar performance, shook Ray's hand and proclaimed, "Finally, I met somebody as wild and crazy as I am!” JOHN LEE HOOKER was so impressed with the band and their performance that he took the BLUESROCKERS and his own band out to dinner and picked up the tab! As an eager student of the blues, these opportunities to hang out and learn at the feet of the masters were not wasted on young Ray; he paid close attention to every pearl of wisdom and every nasty riff and blues lick generously shown to him. Since then, RAY FULLER AND THE BLUESROCKERS have been performing their brand of low down, gutsy blues and red hot rock 'n’ roll for many years, leaving a trail of scorched stages and satisfied fans.

Over a period of two years, Snowy worked on his new album at home in his studio. Mostly on his own... for the first time in his long and distinguished career. Stefan Berggren is one of Sweden's best-known musicians. In his over 30-year career, Stefan participated in many bands/projects such as Snakes In Paradise, M3, Company Of Snakes, Razorback and Berggren Kerslake Band and he, also, shared the stage with many legends like Whitesnake, Deep Purple and Brian May Band to name a few.
"Stranger In A Strangeland" is Stefan's debut solo album and shows the artist moving in the classic rock/hard rock sounds with a strong bluesier 'touch' that makes the final result a sensational purchase for every rock fan out there.
From the classic rock/blues opener track of "Sands Of Time", the listener gets in the mood of the new album. A slow and emotional song with Stefan's warm vocal lines in front row. "Ain't Got No Woman" sounds like a lost Whitesnake song from the early 80's while in "Long Gone Down The Road" will fill you up with a cool blues-based vibe!!! Really great stuff here!! "Stranger In A Strangeland" is a nice rocker, heavier, and in n"Life Goes On" we have a killer bluesier rock gem. More commercial with a feel-good vibe in it, this tune is one of this album's highlights. The acoustic, jazzy closer track "Bye Bye Baby" closes the new record with a moodier feeling.
"Stranger In A Strangeland" is a solid blues-rock album all the way. Based on 70's, early 80's rock scene Stefan Berggren is showing his emotional, more laid back side and along with his amazing voice he creates a record that will be appreciated by any fan of the soft rock, blues sound.

14. She's Gone - 4:31

Michael Hill's primary attribute is his ambition.
Where many contemporary bluesmen are content to turn out standard shuffles and boogies, he wants to bring it all together - Hendrix blues-rock, Chicago blues, soul-blues, jazz and reggae. It's a difficult task, so it isn't entirely surprising that he and his band the Blues Mob don't quite achieve his dreams on his second album, Have Mercy!. What is surprising is how close they come. When Hill and the Blues Mob have everything working right, their music is a heady fusion with real passion and heart. These moments -- including "Women Make the World Go Round," "Africa in Her Name" and a reworking of "Stagolee" -- are powerful enough to make the failed fusions forgivable, and they suggest that Hill could develop into a distinctive talent in his own right.

If it's possible to label anything "new," Michael Hill's Blues Mob are taking a "new" approach to the blues. Hill and his associates incorporate numerous musical influences and elements into contemporary material with a blues feel and sound. Hill's slashing slide guitar mixes rock, funk and reggae as well as blues inflections, and is consistently creative and engaging. The group's compositions feature lyrics which discuss issues and ideas as much as romantic situations and dilemmas, and Hill's vocals aren't pleading, but defiant, triumphant and aggressive. If you're seeking standard fare, this isn't your cup of tea, but those interested in music that expands the blues vocabulary and range will find Michael Hill's Blues Mob the ticket.

New York isn't the first place that comes to mind when one thinks of blues singing -- jazz musicians playing 12-bar themes, certainly, but not blues singing in the usual Chicago, Detroit, New Orleans, or Houston sense. There isn't a law against bluesmen coming from the Big Apple; it's just that the five boroughs are better known for jazz, hip-hop, and salsa than they are for blues singing. But if talented blues singers can be born in Sweden (Sven Zettenberg) or Yugoslavia (Ana Popovic), there is no reason why the Apple shouldn't participate -- and New Yorker Michael Hill's participation has been quite valuable. Recorded live at two different NYC venues in the early 2000s, this double-CD paints a consistently attractive picture of what Hill proudly describes as his "New York City blues." The singer/guitarist is far from a blues purist; not everything he does has 12 bars, and Hill has been greatly influenced by rock, soul and funk. In fact, the title Electric Storyland Live acknowledges his creative debt to Jimi Hendrix, who was arguably the first heavy metal artist -- this release's title is a play on Hendrix's Electric Ladyland. But the blues are Hill's foundation, and he always brings a wealth of blues feeling to the table regardless of whether or not something has 12-bar blues. Hill maintains the feeling of the blues whether he is being influenced by reggae on "Grandmother's Blues," hinting at African pop on "Blessings," or incorporating elements of the Isley Brothers and the Average White Band on "Something in the Sky," which has a '70s-like sound but is a commentary on the aftermath of September 11, 2001. A consistently rewarding document of the Michael Hill Blues Mob's live show, this double-CD is enthusiastically recommended to anyone who is seeking something fresh and challenging from the blues.

The chance to review the same show twice does not come along often. Having flown to Glasgow to catch King King live I honestly was a bit hesitant to review this album. Could a recording somehow tarnish the fond memories of that night? Well, fear not, King King Live captures every bit of the energy, artistry and excitement of that night and now you get to hear it for yourself.
The enthusiasm of the crowd is captured from Alan’s first words when he walks on stage and all the way until the encore of “Let Love In” the band is simply on fire. From the opening track of “Lose Control,” the rock steady duo of Wayne Proctor on drums and Lindsay Coulson on bass set a concrete foundation that underpins everything they do and are what cements this bands place as the current premier British blues rock band. From there they effortlessly transition to “Wait on Time” and “Waking Up.” Meanwhile, the kilted big man himself is front and center and you can hear the pride in Alan’s voice as his powerful vocals encourage the crowd into singing along with the hit “Rush Hour.” The beauty of his versatility is evidenced when he then turns on the soulful and tender side of his voice in the extended ballad “Long History of Love.” The true magic of this band is evident on this song through the interplay between everyone in the group as Alan’s searing guitar work builds off of the organ mastery of Bob Fridzema. The band fires things up again with the up tempo rock of “More Than I Can Take” before getting introspective with “You Stopped The Rain.” Do not let Alan’s “This one’s for Stevie” quip at the beginning steer you down the SRV path as the song is really dedicated to his older brother Stevie Nimmo.  Glaswegian Frankie Miller’s plaintive “Jealousy” is a must considering the venue and the band seamlessly nails the pain and angst expressed in the song. They turn the rock up again with the pulsating rhythm section on “Crazy” as Bob’s organ assists and drives the chorus along. Things get funky as Wayne and Bob set the tone for “All Your Life” before the group gives us another long extended jam with the ballad “Stranger to Love” and Alan’s showmanship is on full display as the crowd gets quieter and quieter as he shushes them during a solo section where he basically had turned his guitar off. Unfortunately, the recording does not quite capture guitar work when he has it turned all the way down which if you were in the first few rows at the show you could hear since he was standing right on the edge of the stage. The passion of Alan’s hometown crowd for this band is evident as they chant King King while waiting for the band to come out and treat them to the stellar encore of “Let Love In” where they once again get the crowd to participate. Ninety minutes flies by entirely two quickly and with the phenomenal catalog of songs that this group has its difficult to pick highlights much less a single highlight as they rolled from one superb track to the next. With a bonus DVD that contains a completely different show and even has some extra tracks, King King Live does a superb job capturing a remarkable performance and is a fitting first live album for this band.  Personally I am so happy that you all get to hear what was one of the top five concerts I have ever attended.
